"My vision for our town is one of continuous improvement and
sustainable growth. I am particularly focused on neighborhood
infrastructure improvements, recognizing the need to reevaluate
and update our current designs to meet the demands of future
growth. Ensuring our infrastructure is resilient and capable of
supporting our community is paramount. Additionally, I am
committed to enhancing pedestrian safety and walkability by
fostering collaboration with transportation agencies to develop
pedestrian-friendly policies. Traffic has long been a challenge on
our island, and I believe innovative solutions can promote
walking and biking. thereby improving our quality of life.

Furthermore, I will advocate for responsible land use and
development policies that strike a balance between residential,
commercial, and tourism interests. Our island will inevitably
change, but it is crucial that we manage this change with
foresight and care, ensuring smart and sustainable growth."

Lee County Government has two important announcements for Fort Myers Beach residents:

Public transit: LeeTran at noon today, Monday, Oct. 7, will stop running routes onto Fort Myers Beach. All LeeTran services will convert to off-island transit only. This is to assist with the Town of Fort Myers Beach’s request for residents to leave the island.

Hurricane Milton Evening Update

The Town of Fort Myers Beach Emergency Management continues to monitor Hurricane Milton. The storm continues to quickly intensify as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach has issued a mandatory evacuation for the entire Island. For the safety of you and your family, the Town urges residents to evacuate safely by 3:00pm on Monday, October 7, 2024. Do not wait until it is too late. All trailers/recreation vehicles, dumpsters, porta-potties, and electric vehicles, such as golf carts, are required to be taken off Island.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach will be implementing the Hurricane Re-entry Pass Program following the storm. This means, only residents, Town staff, and emergency personnel will be allowed on Island once Hurricane Milton has passed. You will be required to show either your re-entry pass or parking sticker to enter the Island. Staff will be located at the base of the Matanzas Pass Bridge and the Big Carlos Pass Bridge to check for passes. If you do not have one, staff will be located at Target to assist residents: 15880 San Carlos Blvd Ste 101, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

If you are not a resident, please do not try to enter the Island before, during, or after the storm. This will only cause for traffic and backups for residents trying to get back to their homes.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach urges residents and business owners to implement their Hurricane Preparedness Plan immediately!

Preparedness Tips:

- Review your Hurricane Preparedness plan. Make sure your family knows what to do before, during, and after a storm. Know your evacuation route. Do not wait until it is too late to evacuate.
- Sign up for Alerts: If you have not done so yet, sign up for CodeRed: Community Notification Enrollment; this is an emergency notification system that allows registered users to receive telephone, text and/or email alerts.
- Stay Updated: Visit the Town of Fort Myers Beach website for Hurricane Preparedness Information.

Follow the Town of Fort Myers Beach Facebook and website News Flashes. Monitor local media outlets, the National Weather Service-Tampa, and the National Hurricane Center.

Please be aware that with heavy rainfall, it will take infrastructure time to drain. Please use caution on the roads and do not drive through flooded streets. The Town of Fort Myers Beach will update you as the storm progresses. Stay safe and stay prepared!

How to put debris out:

USCG Fort Myers Beach Patriot Day Remembrance

Today, I had the honor of attending the USCG Fort Myers Beach Patriot Day Remembrance ceremony. It was a humbling experience to stand alongside our brave First Responders and community as we remembered the lives lost on September 11th and honored the heroes who emerged that day.

Fort Myers Beach has a proud tradition of resilience, and events like this remind us of the importance of unity, service, and remembrance. Thank you to the USCG and Lee County Sheriff's Office for hosting such a meaningful tribute to our nation's history.

Town of Fort Myers Beach has been awarded $13,018,597.90 from Lee County CDBG-DR!

Today, September 3, 2024, the Town of Fort Myers Beach was notified that the applications submitted to the Lee County Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Infrastructure and Public Facilities Programs has been awarded for a total of $13,018,597.90! These programs are part of the overall U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding award to Lee County in the amount of $1.1 billion to support longā€term recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian.

Funding will go toward two projects: North (West) Island Water Tower and Facility and Parks and Recreation Projects. The Parks and Recreation Projects include Old San Carlos & Times Square Lighting Projects, Bay Oaks Community Pool Project, and Newton Park Beach Facility. Through these programs, the Town seeks to create improvements for the entire community in a continued effort toward recovery.

The Infrastructure and Public Facilities Programs are competitive programs available to municipalities within Lee County. The Town has already received funding through the Recovery and Resiliency Planning block, and we continue to submit applications in an effort to secure more funding. All projects under these programs must meet a HUD National Objective as outlined by Lee County in the Action Plan.

The Town of Fort Myers Beach would like to thank Lee County for their continued support of the Town through our Hurricane Ian recovery process. These projects play a vital part in our build-back efforts, and we are excited to be one step closer to recovery.
